Art + Soul Food Festival

Saturday Girard Avenue hosted its second annual Art & Soul Food Festival. The event was proof that I will play anywhere, rain or shine, as long as people are throwing me smiles (Starving artist? Yes…). Locking in at 92 degrees, it was 4 pm and I had barely rested my forearm on the guitar before my face was glistening. It’s not so glamorous but I had to clean the stickyness off of my guitar after the 45 min performance. Singing to an open street of passing cars and pedestrians I felt comfortable and played mostly Crystal Cheatham originals. I loved watching cars slow down to hear the music. Some even pulled off onto the curb to get an ear full. Now that was flattering!

I’m new to the Philly neighborhood so it was welcoming to participate in some neighborly fun.  With food vendors and craft tables lining Girard Ave. the event was a hit amongst locals.  The food alone was worth coming back for. It kind of felt like one giant, organized, block party. Most of the fun  was in the meeting and greeting of new folks. Along with fellow artists I met Joseph Jurciukonis, a freelance photographer who came out to cover the event. Sweat and all I had a good time. I plan on sticking around the neighborhood another year to play there again.

Don’t forget! Wednesday nights at The Terrace at the Thirteen I do Happy Hour. Everyone is invited. If you don’t believe me take a look at this clip. And if that doesn’t convince you read the press :)
